THE ARCHITECTURE

SOPHISTICATED DESIGN &
ARCHITECTURAL PHILOSOPHY

While the city fringe has long enveloped Maribyrnong, there has remained an untamed air of retreat within the suburb. At just 8kms from the CBD, long here have locals enjoyed homes flanked by environs of native bushland and enjoyed a sense of tranquility, all the while sitting on the cusp of a city that rides at the helm of global social, cultural and technological progression. As a new wave of urban-dwellers begin to migrate to the postcode, the community is rapidly becoming the epicentre of progression, innovation and style within the inner-west.

Pioneering this shift within residential-living, White St has been consciously and painstakingly designed by the masters of Melbourne’s architectural landscape, Elenberg Fraser, to move beyond the typical standards of apartment living. These intuitive, timeless homes, have been imagined not for today’s living, but rather for tomorrow’s; featuring a collation of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom homes set within a domain designed to promote genuine community, the precinct offers urban plazas, residential private terraces, as well as facilities specially designed to promote health and wellbeing. Emulating the trajectory of progress and aesthetic precision savvy inner-city dwellers have come to demand, White St seeks to carve out an enduring legacy in what is Melbourne’s next generation of urban living.

Interiors

With a sincere focus on materiality, here interiors feel as good as they look, and will maintain their aesthetic integrity over time too. The purposeful decision to capture the cityscapes with soaring window panes, sees rooms flooded with natural light, while colour palettes remain muted and neutral to let the quality of the textures and materials do the talking. Authentic, intuitive and inescapably luxurious, White St has been crafted for daily rituals to simply unwind without too much fore-thought.

THE LIFESTYLE

MARIBYRNONG, A SUBURB
ON THE RISE

  • Footscray Park

Maribyrnong — a suburb on the rise.

One of Melbourne’s most rapidly evolving areas, Maribyrnong provides new opportunities to live a mere eight kilometres away from the centre of ‘Most Liveable City in the World’, seven years running. Among riverside attractions and green parklands is a landscape of cool cafes, educational institutions and enviable public amenities. Neighboured by vibrant Footscray, plentiful Flemington and abundant Ascot Vale, Maribyrnong residents have the endless offerings of these sought-after suburbs all too close to home.

Maribyrnong is undergoing a reincarnation. Over the last decade the suburb has attracted a vast number of young professionals are starting to call the suburb home, keen to take residence close to the CBD and its fortunate access to employment and connectivity to broader Melbourne. In equal part to its incredible connectivity are the area’s verdant reserves that border the central Maribyrnong River, offering locals a naturally rich backdrop to cycle, run, stroll or slowly meander among.

A retail heartland

Shopaholics can consider themselves lucky; White St is fortunately nestled within Maribyrnong’s retail heartland. It starts with Highpoint, the country’s sixth largest shopping centre with over 500 stores and services. With its finger on current trends, stores Zara, Armani, Apple and Nike are among Highpoint’s abundant offerings – realm that leaves no area of shopping untapped.

For everyday provisions, Maribyrnong’s Edgewater Boulevard Shopping precinct is extremely close to the residences, while specialty grocery shopping can be conducted in neighbouring Footscray. From the fresh produce at Footscray Market, to the international supermarkets speckled throughout the suburbs, Footscray has it confidently covered.

  • Footscray Market

Footscray Market

Footscray Market is a large indoor market with a large range of produce and general goods opposite Footscray Railway Station. This frenetic covered food market is laden with seductive produce: you’ll find lotus flowers, pigs’ ears, coriander and cassava root.

There’s also an excellent range of fresh seafood, some of it still swimming. From the food court, take the lift to the top floor for a giddying view over the railway and docklands to the city and West Gate Bridge.

Best of the west — dining

For a while, Footscray led the vanguard of the west’s dining scene. It’s influence is still undoubtedly strong, yet it’s inspired its surrounding suburbs in the forms of new openings – coming together to create one of the most exciting culinary areas in the city.

The west’s selection is not only impressive, it’s varied. From Ethiopian eating houses, serving spongy injera flatbread paired with different meat stews, to modern Australian dishes among wine bar surroundings – this area caters for wall palettes, and similarly all occasions.

Elenberg Fraser

Elenberg Fraser is not your average architecture firm. An integrated design practice operating across the Asia-Pacific region, its buildings prove that good design leads to economic, social and cultural benefits. But what makes the company so special?

It’s excited by invention. Elenberg Fraser addresses the needs of clients, building users and the community by identifying the specific needs of each project. Team members ask the right questions without imposing pre-determined solution, the company then implements a 6D process to reach the invention stage. This process has opened people’s eyes to impossible realities.

Rather than applying a house style, Elenberg Fraser’s buildings are conceived in their own right, responding to their specific site, location and purpose. The firm doesn’t generalise across projects either – its job is to uncover and express the unique identity of each project, through built form.

The outcome is sensory – architecture that people can feel, not just see.

Architecture that makes people think, acknowledging the origins of architecture and its plethora of influences, both ancient and modern.

Talented individuals and inspired collaboration form the driving force of Elenberg Fraser’s studios. Everyone brings their unique perspective and skills to each project, but most importantly their dedication to producing the best outcome for all stakeholders in the built environment.

Elenberg Fraser is conscious of the impact buildings have on the city, its inhabitants and the environment. This awareness informs its work – taking pride in the end results while considering the effects and requirements of its projects beyond their completion, well into the future. The practice’s environmental design is based on a first principles approach, inspired by the natural environment.

Through interrogation, invention and collaboration Elenberg Fraser produces experiential spaces that demand reaction.
